Ross Caldwell is a partner in our Banking & Financial Services team with over 25 years of post-qualified experience in this area of practice.
His particular specialisms include real estate finance, acquisition finance, leveraged finance and general corporate lending.
Prior to joining the firm in May 2017, Ross practised as a partner in the City of London for ten years, latterly as a partner with international law firm Taylor Wessing LLP.
Ross is qualified to practice under both English law and Scots law and frequently acts on UK cross-border and international debt finance transactions. He is also published in various journals including the Journal of International Banking & Financial Law, the Juridical Review, the Solicitor's Journal, the Journal of the Law Society of Scotland and the Journal of Finance & Credit Law.
Clients appreciate Ross's ability to advise on complex legal issues in a commercial context and in a manner that is concise and comprehensible. He brings many years of cutting edge City of London experience to his practice. Ross regularly acts on international and cross-border financings and he is particularly adept at explaining legal issues and concepts in a comparative manner by reference to comparable principles in other jurisdictions.
The UK Government has legislated to provide for three corporate beneficial ownership registers that must be kept up to date on pain of criminal and civil sanctions to make it more difficult to hide illicit wealth. However, similar registers maintained in the EEA have been held to be unlawful by the European Court of Justice on the basis of human rights legislation.
